Watch the 30 Jazz Rhythms online guitar lesson by Frank Vignola from 30 Jazz Guitar Rhythms You MUST Know

Hi, I'm Frank Vignola, and welcome to 30 Jazz Rhythms You MUST Know!

We all love to solo, but we spend 90% of our time on the bandstand playing rhythm and accompanying other soloists or vocalists. Jazz guitarists must have command of a wide variety of rhythm styles and approaches for bebop, swing, gypsy, blues, Latin, and other jazz sub-genres.

In this collection of jazz rhythms, I've handpicked 30 versatile rhythm licks, patterns, and embellishments across a variety of styles to help you expand your jazz rhythm guitar skills.

For example, we'll work on a Western swing style rhythm part, voice leading in a blues, a Miles Davis inspired quartal harmony approach, gypsy jazz rhythms, Dave Brubeck style 5/4 grooves, and also incorporate walking bass notes with our chords, look at a jazz bossa nova rhythm, and pick up the tempo with a fast "Tico Tico" style rhythm part.

I'll perform each of the rhythms over a backing track and then I'll break them down emphasizing the harmonic approaches and techniques in play. Everything is tabbed and notated, plus you'll get all of the jam tracks to work with on your own.

Grab your guitar, tune up, and let's dig in!
