Here's an example of how we can stretch out an idea using sequential patterns over a dim7th chord arpeggio. The sequence is a relatively long one that gets altered in direction for the second half of the lick.
In using rhythmically familiar motives, we're able to bring more cohesiveness to this line. Here it's played over a Ddim7 chord, but you can experiment with it over a Db7, Bb7, G7, and E7 chord as well.
