Watch the Straight Ahead online guitar lesson by Tom Dempsey from 30 Jazz Arpeggio Licks You MUST Know

We've spent the first two-thirds of this course focusing on single chord arpeggios. In this last section, we're going to begin to string together arpeggios over standard jazz progressions to create musical ideas that bring out the sound of the chords.

In this example, we're dealing with a iimin7-V7 progression which is a very common one. In this four bar lick, we're connecting the minor 7th arpeggio with the dominant 7th chord arpeggio. Everything here is diatonic, but when we string these two arpeggios together, we can get really clear ideas that bring out the sound of the harmony.
