Watch the Experimenting with Different Chords online guitar lesson by Frank Vignola from 1-2-3 Jazz Chord Melody

Creative option 6 is one of my favorites. Expanding your chord vocabulary, or using chords that you already know in these chord melodies. We go through 36 different chords in the chord vocabulary, but you know other chords too! You should expand your chord vocabulary, that should always be your goal. For instance, on the very first note of the song, a C note with a C chord, you can also use a C6, or a Cmaj. The second note we have a C, instead of the Cmaj7 on the G note you can use a C6. Options! With the chord vocabulary given.

So look for options on each note you play when you're adding a chord and see what those options sound like. That's what will make your chord melodies unique, adding different chord types other than the ones given in this course. So go on and experiment, be creative, make good, wise creative decisions about what sounds good to you. I think that's what's going to make your chord melodies unique.
