Watch the Bell Bottoms online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Soloing the Changes

Back to chords! As usual, write them out. Seriously! It's also a great way to remember how to spell the chords, and after a while, you won't need too. C is spelled C-E-G, E7 is spelled E-G#-B-D. The obvious note that should jump out is the G#, and this is the way you should be thinking. To me, these notes almost light up for me on the fretboard as I look at a set of chord changes. I have no mystical ability with this stuff, but I also have a secret to tell you...I practice a lot. I work my butt off learning the neck, chord tones, arpeggios, etc. It's not difficult, it's just work. I always enjoyed this work as the payoff was fairly immediate and huge. The more you work on this stuff, the more it snowballs and becomes easier. Also, if you play guitar, you should know the fingerboard! Tough love...
