Watch the Strategy 2: Work the Style online guitar lesson by Jon Herington from Ear IQ: Soloing Strategies
Here I'll perform my solo for "Thirteen Feet of Rain". You can hear that I ended up using techniques that help give the solo that country character, like using a hybrid right hand technique where, though I'm holding the pick, I'm using my middle finger to strike some of the strings to give it a bit of a snap. I think the finger also changes the sound a lot - you hear more variation in the sounds from note to note, and it seems to bring out different overtones. I also used a lot of left hand techniques like slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs, which are mainstay techniques for country guitar, of course.
