Watch the Arpeggiation online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from 60 Electric Guitar Techniques You MUST Know

Also known as crosspicking, arpeggiation is a technique that calls for you to play notes within a chord while allowing them to ring into each other. This puts the onus on your fret hand to fret chords with enough of an arch to make this happen. At the same time, your pick hand has the responsibility of attacking the right strings no matter how intricate the pattern.

Looking for inspiration? For me, Al DiMeola has always been the benchmark for this technique. Check out a record called Cielo e Terra where Al is basically by himself. It's a good listen and has some insane arpeggiation applications. If you're interested in working on this technique and you need help getting started, check out Guitar Gym: Arpeggiation.
