Artificial harmonics are harmonics played following the same location guidelines as natural harmonics, but with a twist. Whether it's five, seven, or twelve frets above, you'll fret the notes you're intending to play as harmonics, and then with your pick hand 1st finger placed above the fret, you'll either play the string with your pick (now held between your thumb and 2nd finger) or your thumb.
