Watch the EbM7 AbM7 GbM7 CbM7 DbM7 online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: Scale Form Logic Vol. 1

This lesson will show another application of the pentatonic scale. When playing over a major 7 chord, you can play major pentatonic off the root of the chord and/or you can play minor pentatonic off the third of the chord. If you prefer to think in terms of major pentatonic, you can view this second approach as major pentatonic off the fifth of the chord. The theory behind this is as follows: Major pentatonic off the root yields 1 2 3 5 6; minor pentatonic off the third (major pentatonic off the fifth) yields 2 3 5 6 7.
