Watch the Destination To Origin online guitar lesson by Brad Carlton from Guitar Lab: Destination to Origin

The title of this course may seem curious at first glance, but it actually establishes a very important principle for musicians. When improvising, you need to think ahead rhythmically, harmonically, and melodically, looking for the information on the fingerboard which enables you to maintain continuity in your music. We all know what it's like to be creating a melodic line or series of chord voicings and have everything going well but then have to break the musical flow because you suddenly don't see where you need to go. This course addresses the potential problems that can crop up when you not putting your destination before your origin in your playing. This concept is also a foundation for virtuoso technique. The idea of getting your fretting hand over as many notes as possible in a passage to minimize motion is critical for smooth effortless playing.

Throughout this course, you'll be presented with variations of a chord voicing which are generated by modifications of different voices. Your ultimate goal is to create simultaneous melodies as you move melodically and harmonically.
