Watch the Power Chords: Level 3 online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from Guitar Gym: Power Chord Workouts

For the second Level 3 Power Chord Workout we're going to continue the diagonal movements established in the first workout and add the octave root on the top of the chord. Starting once again on a 6th string rooted G5 you'll make a six bar journey that ends with a D5 cadencing back to the top. Within those changes is a similar diagonal progression on the way up, but on the way down you'll follow on augmented triad (1-3-#5) root movement as you progress diagonally down the neck.

As stated in the previous workout, the key is to play all the chords clearly, keep the pressure applied to each grip as steady and consistently as you can and to keep the transition clean. Be mindful of the top string set voicings where I play a 4th finger barre for the top notes of the chords. While you can employ a different approach, from my experience this fingering scheme will garner the best results. But, if need be, switch the fingers to what works for you.
