Watch the Weekly Workout #38 online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from Guitar Gym Weekly Workouts: Vol. 5

I love making use of pentatonic scales as much as the next guitar player. What I don't like is Fingering #3's note placement as a purely vertical scale fingering when you stick to a two-note-per-string fingering. So in order to take advantage of the very cool upper and lower playing areas of this fingering I make use of what I call transition areas or points so I can avoid that juncture where I get caught up and thus still play freely. That's exactly what this week's Weekly Workout shows you with this fun lick in G#m. Packed with varying examples of sliding, hybrid picking and legato you get a taste of the potential that lurks within this fingering when the shackles are unlocked.

Have fun with it!
