Sometimes instead of just strumming a chord, we use individual note picking to get our point across. When you're playing the notes of a chord one at a time, it's called an "arpeggio," or sometimes you will have someone tell you to "arpeggiate the chord"—that just means play through it one note at a time instead of strumming them all.
This is a good lick to get your single note picking up to speed—start slowly at first and then gradually build up your speed until you can play along with the song.
