I was born in Messina, a town in Sicily on the Mediterranean Sea and now I live close to the water in the San Francisco Bay Area. A few years ago I was having a party at a State Park close to my home and a melody suddenly hit me as I was looking at the beautiful scenery. After a few days I did finish a composition inspired by this experience and my daughter came up with the right title:” The Blue Ocean".
The melody of this tune is pretty simple, a Pop ballad with a nice I - V - vi - IV - V chord progression with an interesting open tuning: DADEAE.
When I play "The Blue Ocean" in concert, I always ask my audiences to close their eyes. Undistracted by watching my fingering or focusing on my guitar techniques, they let the music sink in, and inspired by it, they create their own still paintings (or even their own movies) through their own imagination. It's a wonderful process that happens every time I play live and speaks to the heart.
