Lesson Source: Jennifer Batten's Rock Sauce for Lead

If you're not used to using string skips in your playing, it can be challenging at first for both hands. So, it's a good idea to focus on one hand at a time. You might try each riff by just fingering it with the left hand only at first (no picking), and once you're comfortable with it, add the picking hand and look only at that. Try also, skipping strings with a pattern you usually use on adjacent strings. Try playing a simple diatonic scale fingering and instead of playing it normally with consecutive scale tones, play the notes on the low E string, jump to the D string notes, back up to the A string notes, jump to the G string notes, and continue to the high E string.
