Playing wide intervals in a circular melodic pattern is a keystone in your melodic vocabulary. In this example, we are going to take a nice melodic phrase that can be repeated over and over. How this works effectively is that this can basically "loop" over the moving chord progression underneath it. Whereas normally it is the rhythm that stays relatively static and the lead line moves around and keeps it interesting, this is just the opposite. I think in this manner it makes the song a bit stronger as the listener has a stronger relationship with the actual backbone of the tune. This lick is in G major and the intervallic circular melody addresses all the chord tones of G major with a few extra thrown in.
