Watch the What Is This Thing Called Minor? online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Jazz Guitar Greatest Hits Vol. 3

What Is This Thing Called Minor? is a video guitar lesson presented by Tom Dempsey and is sourced from 30 Jazz Arpeggio Licks You MUST Know

Another classic jazz standard that you must know is the tune "What is This Thing Called Love" by Cole Porter. This tune begins with a ii-V-i in a minor key.

In this lesson, we have an example of an arpeggio idea that moves from a Dmin7b5 arpeggio to a B diminished 7th chord arpeggio to bring out the b9 on the G7 chord. Then, it cadences with a Cmin7 arpeggio. You'll notice that the Cmin7 arpeggio begins with an anticipation on the end of beat four just before the Cmin7 chord appears. Being able to "telegraph" harmony in an anticipatory way is another good skill to develop in your improvisation skills.
