How to play the I-vi-ii-V + 2 extensions Work on these slowly! Try to hold the chords so that voices move smoothly from one chord to the next. Remember to try and move some voices and hold others, to create the illusion that there are multiple voices all moving independently. Contary motion - when two or more voices move in opposite directions. Oblique motion - when one voice moves and one voice stays the same, and of course the dangerous "parallel motion" sounds great in more modern sounding jazz, not so cool in earlier jazz, bebop, swing etc.
