Watch the Spoonful of Cream online guitar lesson by TrueFire from Blues Guitar Greatest Hits - Vol. 4

Spoonful of Cream is a video guitar lesson presented by Jeff McErlain and is sourced from 30 Smokin' Blues-Rock Guitar Licks You MUST Know

I've mentioned Eric Clapton as being one of my favorite players, especially during his time in Cream. A song that was especially influential for me was the live version of "Spoonful" on Wheels of Fire. It's 16 minutes and 47 seconds of pure awesome.

The amount of sound produced by those three guys is huge, and this lick is a perfect example of how one guitar player can fill up a lot of space. I primarily play in a trio of my own and it can be quite demanding and at the same time quite freeing. It's freeing because I can do whatever the heck I want! But demanding, as it requires me to fill up a lot of space as I am the only full chordal instrument. Yes, I know bass players can play chords, but not in my band. One of the things I learned from Eric Clapton is how to fill up space without playing too many notes. Check out this tune. Also notice his amazing guitar tone. Gibson + Marshall = Awesome.
