Watch the Hit The Sweet Notes online guitar lesson by Gary Hoey from Blues Rock Reactor

Let's go over chord inversions and triads. We've talked about learning the language of music, which to me is about knowing a little bit more about what you're playing, and in this case, being able to have some flexibility with your chord voicings. A triad is basically three notes ("tri"), being the root, the 3rd, and the 5th. To invert it, take the second note as your new first note, putting the root on top. By learning your triads and inversions, you'll be able to transition through your chord progressions and make them sound smoother.
