Watch the Six of One online guitar lesson by Chris Buono from 30 Funk Rhythms You MUST Know

Stepping away from a 4/4 feel once again, Rhythm 18 sets you up with a 6/8 groove with "Six of One". Set in Em, the rhythm starts with an Em7 voicing that omits the 5th. This is an easy way to open up the sound of your chords while making the fretting of those chords that much easier. Regarding fingering, notice how I use my fret hand 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fingers from bottom to top to hold down this grip. The rest of the chords are also fifth-less, but are rooted from the sixth string. Again, notice I employ the same fingering approach. The response ideas in Bars 2 & 3 have a more legato sounding feel because of the hybrid picking and open strings. While you can pick all the notes, I encourage you to work out the hybrid pattern. It sounds great and will be a valuable asset to your trick bag.
