Watch the Improvising over a Jam Track Shape 2 Demonstration online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from Melodic Soloing: Major Scale
In this lesson, I'll demonstrate improvising using Shape 2, key of C. I'll improvise creating melodies using Shape 2 in the demonstration video, then you should try it.
Notice how I create melodies based around bends, bending to notes in the shape using my first, second, third, and fourth fingers. I especially like the sound of half step bends within the shapes. They sound emotional and soulful and often inspire melodies! I also try to be aware of rhythm and let that dictate some of the phrases, in the way the notes sit around the rhythm of the backing track. Experiment bending half steps and whole steps with different fingers.
