Watch the Improvising over a Jam Track Combining Shapes Demonstration online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from Melodic Soloing: Major Scale

This lesson combines Shapes 6 and 1 to create melodies against a rock shuffle in A major. The chords for the jam are:
|DMAJ7 |AMAJ7 |DMAJ7 |AMAJ7 |F#m7 |
|C#m7 |Bm7 E7|A6 ||

A IV-I-IV-I-vi-iii-ii V-I progression in the key of A, therefore once again all the notes in those chords are diatonic, meaning they are all from one key, in this case the A major scale.

In this demo, I'm combining shapes 6 and 1 in the key of A. Try to keep melodic ideas moving the shapes and by jumping around intervals, meaning not just playing the shapes ascending or descending in order, providing a fresh sound and more rhythmic ideas.
