Watch the Week 8: Bourrée in E Minor by J.S. Bach online guitar lesson by Andrew Leonard from Classical Guitar For The Blues, Jazz & Rock Player

Playing J.S. Bach's "Bourrée" in E minor is the culmination of our technical studies, and playing the music of Bach is the pinnacle of musical interpretation. This week we will learn about interpreting music from the Baroque Era. Phrasing in Baroque music is different than Classical (Sor & Giuliani) or Romantic music (Tarrega & "Spanish Romance"). The musical ideas or phrases are often shorter. Also, Baroque music is "contrapuntal". You will be playing more than one melody at the same time a great challenge for us guitarists! Also we are playing Baroque era "dance music." A Bourrée is a dance piece that implies a specific rhythmic pattern with strong and weak beats. When we understand the rhythmic pattern, it helps us find the "groove" in the piece. We have come a long way from our first week, now it is time to apply to everything we have learned.
