Watch the G7 Stormy Changes online guitar lesson by Rob Garland from Melodic Soloing: Blues Chord Tones
A common set of chord changes that blues musicians often use is based on the song "Stormy Monday". This has some variations, but for example in the key of G:
|G7 |C9 |G7 Ab7 |G7 |
|C9 |C9 |G7 Am7 |Bm7 Bbm7 |
|Am7 |EbMAJ7 Cm7 |G7 C9 |G7 D7#9 ||
Play through the chords with me. Chord tones can be particularly effective on the minor chord walkup in bars 7-8. I'll improvise over the changes and then break it down for you.
