The repeating groove figure here is the sort of thing commonly played in standard, fretted fashion (think John Lee Hooker, Billy Gibbons, etc), but it works great as a slide figure too, and it’s fun (and good practice) to switch back and forth between grooving and soloing. In addition to the basic call and response between the groove part and the licks, there’s a kind of internal call and response between the licks up in the closed box position and the hammer on/pulloff licks down in open position.
