Early on in this course, we looked at how to cut a note off with the right hand, and that technique is an important part of this tune. As you work your way chromatically up and down the second string in particular, there are a lot of tight, staccato notes happening, all done with right hand muting. Seems counterintuitive to try and work against the naturally slippery, sustained sound of slide playing, but those staccato moments are what make the longer notes that much more dramatic and effective.
