Watch the Putting It Together online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Focus On: British Blues

On this one I really wanted to show you this cool little riff based blues in the style of Eric Clapton in his Bluesbreakers period. I had some fun borrowing some of the ideas he plays on the fantastic tune "Bernard Jenkins" that is available on the remastered extended version of the classic John Mayall record. If you do not have this record, IT IS AN ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL RECORDING TO HAVE! Was that subtle enough of an hint? There are few records that continuously amaze me where I always seem to find something new, and that record is one of them. Clapton in this era truly had something magical going on, between his tone, style, attitude, youth, etc. I'm not sure how, but the stars aligned and this record was made, acting as the blueprint for almost all rock guitar that followed and the catalyst for the British blues movement. We all owe Clapton and Mayall a debt of gratitude.
