Watch the I Need It Bad online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Focus On: British Blues

On a blues like that it's hard not to see the influence of BB King. I grew up only really knowing BB by seeing him on the Tonight Show and situations like that. I completely missed all of the history and power behind who he was. It wasn't until later in my career that I really start listening to him and realized the level of what I was missing, and how he had influenced my playing through that of others like Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, and of course Peter Green. Like many of the classic bluesmen, I always suggest going back to their older stuff, or picking up a greatest hits compilation. A must have is BB King Live at the Regal, recorded live in 1965. BB is at the height of his powers as a player and singer, one of the best blues singers ever. One of my favorite parts of the recording is the audience, which sounds like it could have been a Beatles concert. Get that record! I also dig into these concepts in my Chicago Blues Solo Factory course here at TrueFire.
