Watch the Folky Little Finger online guitar lesson by Adrian Legg from Fingerstyle Revisionist: Origins

Early on in my fingerstyle playing I came across Elizabeth Cotten's "Freight Train." It came to me second or third-hand, and for years I didn't know she played a right-handed guitar upside down, but coupled with a few other things I saw and heard it struck me that a left hand pinky could do a lot on top of simple chords.

Then I heard "Doc's Guitar" on a friend's car cassette player, and this piece developed over some time after that. It’s a useful little trick over an alternating bass with a very simple right hand part: tails down = thumb, tails up = fingers.
