Watch the After Paris: Intro & Ending online guitar lesson by John Knowles, C.G.P. from Fingerstyle Journals
I remember having the ending for "After Paris" and realizing I needed an intro. I noticed that my ending included every note in a D minor scale plus a few extras. So, I wondered what it would sound like if I played those scale notes in two directions at once. Then I fingered Dm with the F on the 4th string so I could play the up-and-down scales without lifting my 2nd and 3rd fingers. Chet called those fingers "anchor fingers".
Next, I borrowed a rhythm that reminded me of my friend, Marcel Dadi. I would say "voila," but I'll take Marcel's advice: "John, it is not necessary for you to speak French."
