Watch the Jessica Sue online guitar lesson by Brooks Robertson from Fingerstyle Survival Guide

This tune heavily utilizes the skipping patterns which means the more comfortable you are with all of the skipping patterns and techniques from section one the easier this entire song will become to learn and play. I suggest reviewing those patterns before jumping into the breakdown. The right hand thumb is continuously alternating and rotating no matter what the fingers are doing so just remember to always keep that happening. The right hand thumb will only play on the bass three strings and the index, middle and ring fingers will generally stay assigned to the top three treble strings.

You’ll want to use a combination of the tablature, the performance video and the breakdown to learn this tune from start to finish. Be sure to work on small portions at a time and the more repetitions you do the smoother and more polished it will become. The A and B part can be repeated to form a more complete elongated version of the tune. Especially when you’re repeating the same part of a tune you should be conscious of the right and left hand dynamics you are using and feel free to experiment with variations and embellishments.
