Watch the Ready for Freddie online guitar lesson by Corey Congilio from Essentials: Texas Blues Solos
This solo is in the key of D. Like many great blues solos, this one uses major pentatonic notes mixed in with our trusty minor pentatonic. Most often in these situations, you'll see notes thrown in that add more of a major "happy" quality to a solo, like the major 3rd and 9th. Again, this is not a 12 bar blues. This is a 16 bar form and the changes aren't I-IV-V. Have a look at bars 7 and 8—this is where it changes. We have what would be called a II-V, but the II in this case is dominant. We'll talk more about that. Let's do it!
