Watch the Jazzy Jeff online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Essentials: Solo Electric Blues
This particular feel can be boiled down to accenting just the down beats. A great exercise is to play the chords, C7, F7, and G7 using the standard blues form and a metronome. Next just play the down beats, beats 1 2 3 and 4 in time using swing eighths. It should sound like: chonk, chonk, chonk, chonk, etc. Each time the metronome clicks you should be playing a chord using a downstroke. Now you are playing in the Freddie Green style who was Count Basie's guitar player. Green would often just lay down those down beats in perfect time. Now do the same with the up beats. Each upbeat should be played with an upstroke. It should sound like click chonk, click chonk, click chonk, click chonk. Do this first and nail it, then you can email me and thank me later!
