Watch the Marty's Melody online guitar lesson by Tony Smotherman from Essentials: Power Ballad Soloing

Be sure to add some vibrato to the double stops—this can add more feel to the chords and even help cut through the mix. The half step bends are an incredible tool for playing melodically as the note feel is completely different from that of a whole step. We make use of a melodic motif in the middle of the piece using the relative minor C# minor pentatonic.

The motif has very few notes and is simple, but when you apply bending and vibrato, it can create a really powerful feel overall. I even tend to overemphasize the bending and vibrato to make the part really stand out.
