Watch the Sweep It Up online guitar lesson by Angus Clark from Essentials: Neoclassical Rock Soloing

Sweep Section
If these chord shapes and the picking used is new to you, please take a minute to really break this down for yourself and get this stuff learned. This is not just a neoclassical exercise, this is regular fretboard knowledge. Notice the use of inversions in order create the sequence.

Melodic Section
"Do something once, then do something similar in the second phrase" - that gem of wisdom just fell out of my mouth totally unrehearsed. Hot tip.
This little melody is another example of motivic development, one of my favorite things.
The last lick is created simply by trilling on the half steps in the harmonic minor scale. Provides a nice opportunity to get your trills together. "Half-step trill-y thing" - that name is now official. I'm gonna start a Wikipedia entry for it.
