The thumb plays a key role here in creating the melody. We’ve seen a little of this already in Marco Cohen Rides Again, but with this tune, especially on the I chord, the fourth-string notes played by the thumb are an integral part of overall melodic flow. This melody is also full of anticipations, and by leaning into them with a little more emphasis - for instance, those slightly longer notes on the and of 2 and the and of 4 in the first couple of measures - you can really bring out the lilt of the melody.
