Watch the C Horse online guitar lesson by David Hamburger from Essentials: Fingerstyle Blues

We focused at the beginning of the course on the use of articulations like slides, hammerons and pulloffs on a particular string. The optional left-hand damping discussed here is a kind of global articulation, in that it simultaneously affects the sound of all six strings. As I mention in the video, the process of relaxing your entire fretting-hand grip just enough to deaden the strings, just after picking the notes of the second and fourth beats, can add a whole new dimension to your groove.
