Watch the Trower Thumb online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Essentials: Blues Rock Grooves Vol. 2

Robin Trower is an English guitar player who came to fame after releasing his most popular record Bridge of Sighs. If you don't have this record, I highly recommend it being a part of your collection. It's a blues rock masterpiece with great songs, vocals, and of course, great guitar playing. I would say Trower was certainly influenced by Jimi Hendrix, interestingly enough I got into Robin Trower before I did Jimi. Although their styles are similar mainly due to the guitar tone, Trower definitely has his own voice and style. He's still touring and I definitely think you should check him out to see one of the original masters at work.

This tune is an amalgamation of a number of Robin Trower tunes, but most notably "Alethea" from the For the Earth Below record. I want to note that the singer/bass player in this period was James Dewar, who I think is one of the coolest rock singers of all time. He really makes the classic Trower records for me. If you were to buy one Robin Trower record, make it Bridge of Sighs and crank it!
