Blues rock had it's heyday in the 60's and 70's with bands like Led Zeppelin, Cream, Van Halen, Free, The Faces, and many more. It's my favorite genre of rock and roll, which I realize makes me a bit of a dinosaur, but what can we guitar players do. There's certainly been a resurgence in the genre with people like Jack White, the Black Keys, Royal Blood, Vintage Trouble, and of course Joe Bonamassa.
In the 90's there was Badlands to carry the torch, led by ex-Ozzy guitarist Jake E Lee and ex-Black Sabbath singer Ray Gillen. Their tunes were riff rock driven and blues soaked, with vocals right out of the Robert Plant school of singing, Jake's fire blues playing, and a strong live show with extended jams. Unfortunately, the band broke up after two records and shorty after Ray passed away from AIDS. If you are a blues rock fan I highly recommend these two records, the self-titled first record Badlands and the second, Voodoo Highway. Good stuff.
