Watch the Texas Rain Solo online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Essentials: Advanced Blues Soloing

Here's another song inspired by the Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top classic "It Sure Got Cold After the Rain Fell" from Rio Grande Mud. It's not technically a blues, although it does use a I-IV-V chord progression that is quite common. This major based chord progression frankly used to kick my butt. The simple reason was I hadn't played over major chords all that much coming from a blues rock/heavy metal background. Progressions like this were very difficult for me for a while until I sat down and worked through it. That, my friends, is the secret that I will let you in on: practice works! Don't be afraid of the work and look at it as a fun challenge and the payoff is always well worth it. Just like your triads - learn your triads. Really!
