Watch the Minor Sea Solo online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Essentials: Advanced Blues Soloing

Let's check out a slow minor blues in the key of C. The chords are Cm, Fm, and Gm. To take your soloing to the next level, you really need to know which notes are in which chords, so let me help with that: Cm = C-Eb-G, Fm = F-Ab-C, Gm = G-Bb-D. Try to envision the chords in more than one position on the fingerboard simply using fingering you already know.

A simple approach to outlining the chords, or chord tone soloing, is to play the notes of each chord while playing that actual chord. That's pretty easy, right? Well, it does take some time, but it is conceptually that easy.
