Watch the Texas Rain Solo online guitar lesson by Jeff McErlain from Essentials: Advanced Blues Soloing

Since the breakdown is fairly self-explanatory, let's talk about Billy Gibbons for a minute. I must admit I'm not a big fan of the MTV generation ZZ Top, but all the records before that I think are some of the best rock 'n' roll records available. The band has a great mixture of vocals, songs, originality, and they play their butts off! For me, one of the hallmarks Billy's playing is his tone, I've heard him say he had some of the first Marshall amps available in the United States in the late 60's, as he was friends with Jeff Beck and had them sent over. Billy also opened for Jimi Hendrix early on in his career. If you're not familiar with these early records, please check them out and I think you'll be quite happy you did. If you want to investigate his playing further, I have a course here at TrueFire on playing in the style of Billy Gibbons. There's lots to learn from the man.
