Tom Kopyto About the Educator

After realizing his early influences (Yngwie, George Lynch, Paul Gilbert) Tom began practicing constantly, determined to reach their level of musicianship.

He began his musical education by taking lessons at local music shops and by teaching himself with instructional videos, books and guitar magazines. After high school, Tom attended Berklee College of Music and later the Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University, where he studied jazz composition, theory, harmony and improvisation. His playing and compositional style is equally influenced by jazz/fusion and progressive metal.

The beginning of 2000 saw Tom complete his first instrumental CD, YTK. Released worldwide by MACE Music label, YTK received critical acclaim from the instrumental shred guitar and progressive metal press and earned Tom a global fanbase. Endorsement deals with DR Strings, Brian Moore Custom Guitars and Vanous Technologies soon followed. Later that year Tom entered and won the rock guitar category of "Best Guitarist on the Web", a worldwide promotional contest sponsored by Ernie Ball/Music Man and Sonic Foundry.

Tom is currently recording a new instrumental CD and authoring an instructional CDROM for 6 and 7 string guitar. Both projects are scheduled for release sometime during 2002.
