Brent Maher, with six Grammy Award winning records to his credit, has become one of Nashville’s most successful and critically acclaimed producers and hit songwriters. Maher’s accomplishments include over 20 number one singles, numerous top ten singles and a wide array of platinum and multi-platinum selling albums. His credits read as a “Who’s Who” of recording artists including The Judds, Shelby Lynne, Gladys Knight, Nickel Creek, Wynonna, Kenny Rogers, Jo Dee Messina, Kathy Mattea, Ray Charles, Olivia Newton-John, Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, Ike & Tina Turner and many more. Recently, Maher engineered the Grammy award winning single “Lost Highway” from the album “The Last of the Breed” with Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard & Ray Price.
One of Maher's many successes as a producer came as a result of his discovering The Judds and developing their now famous acoustic country sound. He produced all ten of The Judds’ records, with additional production credits including Kathy Mattea’s Grammy winning release Good News and teaming up again with Wynonna, Maher produced her platinum album, The Other Side. He also produced the Kenny Rogers’ come back hits, “The Greatest” and “Buy Me A Rose;” worked on the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning Robert Duvall film “Tender Mercies” and produced the Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated song, “Over You.”
As a songwriter, Maher’s credits include numerous number one singles. Maher has received over thirty awards from ASCAP, SOCAN and the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). He received Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music for the Judds’ career making single, “Why Not Me.” Maher’s bluesy, country songs became a signature sound for The Judds as he went on to write a string of hits, including “Girls Night Out,” “Rockin’ with the Rhythm of the Rain” and many others. Other artists recording Maher’s songs include Tanya Tucker, Jo Dee Messina, Tina Turner, Kenny Rogers, Shelby Lynne and more.
On the international music scene, Maher is currently producing Gareth Dunlop from Northern Ireland, which resulted in a track sampled by rap superstar T.I. on his 2014 release Paperwork. Maher produced all of the multi-platinum records on Canadian superstar Johnny Reid. In 2009, Maher received CCMA awards for Album of the Year and Best Selling Canadian Album and again in 2010 for Single of the Year and Best Selling Canadian Album. In the years following, Reid & Maher won a CCMA award for Best Selling Canadian Album. Maher was also awarded a Juno award for Album of the Year. Maher developed and produced the Grammy nominated debut from Bering Strait, a young band comprised of seven Russian musical prodigies. The band’s music and story was covered by 60 Minutes and inspired an award-winning documentary.
Brent Maher’s engineering credits include the projects he has produced along with a diverse group of artists that include Ike & Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” Dave Loggins, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Faces, Duke Ellington, Dottie West, Sammy Davis Jr., Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Sly and the Family Stone and many others.
