Watch the In Love With Love Pt. One online guitar lesson by Jon Herington from Ear IQ: Reactive Improvisation
A great strategy for learning to improvise on a difficult set of chord changes is to divide the song up into more manageable chunks, and study each one at a time. In the first part of this song, "In Love With Love," we'll analyze the chord progression, audition all twelve notes against each chord, and create our best sounding collections of notes for our improvising raw material. I'll demonstrate those collections along with the track. The first time through the progression I'll play the collections themselves, and the next time through I'll improvise while targeting the third of each chord on the downbeat of the chord change to show how that strategy can be a powerful way of expressing the harmony of the song.
