Watch the In Love With Love Pt. Two online guitar lesson by Jon Herington from Ear IQ: Reactive Improvisation

On this second section of "In Love With Love," the chord changes move twice as fast, challenging us a bit more. We'll put these chord changes through the same process, analyzing the harmony and finding our choice notes. Then I'll demonstrate playing chord tones on downbeats, thirds in this case, and after that I'll play through the progression connecting thirds to fifths on each chord. I think you'll hear that even this simple, formulaic approach can begin to yield musical sounding results. The idea here is to get your ear in gear - we're training ourselves to hear the harmony well, to be able to hear each tone of our collection against it, and to get all that information into our musical minds through this kind of disciplined, very self-conscious practice. But remember: the ultimate goal is to be able to intuitively improvise on a chord progression and have all of this practice pay off and serve us by the way it's taught us so much about what really sounds good on a song, so that our intuitive choices are well informed.
