Watch the Taking the A7 Train online guitar lesson by David Grissom from Open Road Guitar

On taking the A7 Train I really want to concentrate on the chicken picking ideas using hybrid picking. I will be sticking with A mixolydian, but of course on the IV chord I will be emphasizing the minor third. On the V chord I will be adding in the 3rd of the chord which will be D#. I will show you how I can weave in between staccato lines, single note lines and double stop lines by using chicken picking and hybrid picking. On the second chorus I will show you how I use open strings in this key. In A mixolydian every open string is in the scale so we can incorporate them into our playing. The higher you are on the neck the more unexpected those open strings will sound. I work my way back down the neck for a little more conventional open string lick on the IV chord. On the V chord I'll go back to some chicken ideas similar to the way I started the solo.
