Watch the Vibrato online guitar lesson by David Grissom from Open Road Guitar
A technique all guitar players use to give a vocal quality to our playing is vibrato. There are players that you can listen to and by one note, because of their vibrato you can tell who they are. For example Angus Young and Paul Kossoff have a faster vibrato. Other players often use a slower vibrato to get a more vocal quality. The two main fingers I use for vibrato are my first and third fingers. We can certainly add vibrato to a bent note, but it is important to concentrate on getting your vibrato together on an unbent string. As I discussed in the first technique in this section, hand position is very important to getting control over the vibrato. My thumb is over the top of the neck, this gives me a lot of strength and control over the note and guitar. I can't emphasize the importance of vibrato enough.
