Watch the Bolero Ornaments online guitar lesson by Jesús Hernández from Buena Vista Cuban Guitar Guidebook
In the Cuban bolero, guitars have different roles. One of them (guitarra acompanante) plays just the rhythm. The solo guitar (guitarra prima) plays solos, mostly phrases. The guitarra segunda is the one that plays chords with different voicings than the rhythmic guitar. He will be improvising with chords and some arpeggios without bothering the singer or lead instrument. The goal is to talk with the singer without disturbing him/her, and not do the same as the guitar acompanante.
